Devil Without A Cause

Kid Rock's way of blending different genres makes his music appealing and his style unique. He has become known as being a bad ass rocker that speaks his mind without giving a damn what critics think even referring to himself as The Bullgod, Devil Without a Cause, and American Badass . Kid has maintained his star power as an lyricist, singer, rapper, musician, producer and actor, but his status as a cultural icon has been largely due to his swagger and fun loving personality.

The History of Rock

Kid Rock has been causing a ruckus since his childhood in suburban Romeo, Michigan. When his time wasn't occupied with caring for horses or mowing lawns boredom sometimes led him to shenanigans particularly petty vandalism. At the age of eleven he began to dance for the B-Boy group Furious Funkers. Kid loved the hip hop scene and he was influenced by the musicians he heard on hip hop radio. Particularly Run Dmc , The Beastie Boys and Whodini. Eventually he would get his own turn tables and begin to perform at parties and talent competitions. It was at these predominately black venues that he got his new stage name because the crowd would shout " Watch That White Kid Rock "

Breaking In

Soon Kid began making friends in the world of hip hop and joined a group called The Beast Crew. He was given a demo deal by Jive Records after a representative saw him perform and it eventually led to a record deal at the age of seventeen. This album which was titled " Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast" earned Kid his first experience with bad press due to the track " Yo Da Lin In The Valley". The song was banned by the FCC for it's fixation on oral sex and the entire debacle that followed led to Kid being released from Jive Records after less than a year of being signed.

Kid was resigned to the independent label Continuum and he released the album "The Polyfuze Method". It was on this second album that he began to show musical prowess with his country inspired rap. With this album came some positive press by the Village Voice saying Kid was "a born-rapper,effortless and thrilling." Once again he had problems with the label he was signed to because they went bankrupt.

He decided to focus his energy on establishing his own record label Top Dog Records and formed the back up band Twisted Brown Trucker. In 1996 Kid gave the world his first album from his own label Early Morning Stoned Pimp. His entrepreneurial skills brought his 14,000 sales from the trunk of his car and after shows.

In 1996 a record executive from Lava/Atlantic records caught one of Kid's concerts in Cleveland but initially doubted his material's strength. So he wanted to show them what he was made of with a six song demo and they signed him after hearing only the first two songs. This deal gave us Kid's album Devil Without A Cause which he recorded and recorded the bulk of in less than a week to make the company's deadline. His relentless energy shows through on the hit album which exposed Kid's effortless musical ability and party driven lyrics. He was soon busy with touring and partying with Aerosmith,Hank Jr, Tim McGraw among others.
